Following a recent change to the RFL’s Medical Standards, Rugby League clubs can no longer use Doctor Equivalents for the care of our players in Rugby League games, meaning long serving Darran Miller has been forced to surrender his position at Keighley Cougars.

Keighley Cougars are therefore looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Gameday Doctor to cover home games throughout the 2025 season.

The successful candidate will be joining Keighley Cougars at an exciting time as we seek promotion to Betfred Championship while raising medical standards.

Candidates must be committed, flexible and have a strong interest in sport with a minimum of 24 months post graduate experience, preferably in an acute setting.

It is desirable to have some experience in Rugby League, a qualification in Sport and Exercise Medicine or pitch side trauma management.

High standards of communication, organisation and teamwork are expected and essential to this role and candidates should be able to demonstrate this consistently.

It is essential that the successful candidate can work independently and has appropriate indemnity to enable them to cover professional sport at pitch side.

If no pitch side qualification has been attained, the club will fund the Immediate Medical Management on Field of Play (IMMOFP) course.

Below outlines main duties and responsibilities:

  • Pitch side for all home fixtures usually played on Sunday 3pm KO
  • Direct communication with Physiotherapist and Head Coach to diagnose, treat and manage any injuries
  • Emergency care at pitch side
  • Oversight of Concussion Graduated Return to Play
  • Referral to specialist letter writing/administration

Salary: Standard RFL Gameday Rate
