Keighley Cougars can confirm that Billy Walkley has been released from his playing contract by mutual consent to allow him to take up a playing opportunity with a Championship club.
Billy burst onto the scene at the start of the 2024 season securing the number 5 jersey, making 26 appearances with a return of 20 tries, finishing the year as the club’s Rising Star.
Head Coach Alan Kilshaw said “Billy had a desire to test himself in the Championship and an opportunity presented itself earlier than expected. We are pretty well covered in the outside backs and with Ryder on track to return sooner than expected, it was something the club was able to mutually agree to. Billy’s a great kid and has a great future in the game.”
He leaves the club with a total of 36 appearances and 24 tries. All at the club wish Billy nothing but success with his move up to the Championship.
