Keighley Cougars Head Coach Rhys Lovegrove has today named a 23-man squad for Saturday’s opening friendly against the Newcastle Thunder at Kingston Park.
In what is his side’s first runout of the new year, Lovegrove has opted to select all those available to him to enable them the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned over pre-season.
This means six of the Cougars off-season recruits, Sadiq Adebiyi, Ben Crooks, Mark Ioane, Ellis Robson, Robbie Storey, and Keenen Tomlinson, will get their first runouts in Keighley colours.
Kyle Kesik also features for the first time since August’s victory against Doncaster after missing the final two games of last season through suspension, and Anesu Mudoti is also back in a Keighley squad after missing the majority of last year through injury.
Mo Agoro is unavailable due to a concussion sustained in training with both Brad Walker and Lloyd Roby continuing their rehabilitation following shoulder and knee injuries respectively.
Luke Gale and Thomas Doyle are both ruled out through suspension.
Gale will be free to play next weekend against Castleford in Jake Webster’s Testimonial match whilst Doyle is unavailable until the Round 2 fixture away at the Widnes Vikings.
