Keighley fall to their first defeat of the League One season after a gritty Hunslet side win at Cougar Park.
Hunslet started the game well with Jude Ferreira crossing after a break down the left edge to open the scoring.
The game got worse for the Cougars when Ferreira scored again to make it a brace for himself and give Hunslet an eight-point lead.
Keighley made a few changes, and they paid off when Ellis Robson sneaked over the line to score.
The Cougars kept the pressure on, and Billy Walkley kept up his fine try scoring record to give Keighley the lead.
The try scoring before the interval wasn’t done though as the milestone man from last week Junior Sa’u scored to give Keighley a 14-8 lead at the break.
Hunslet levelled proceedings as Jude Law ran a great line to find a gap in Keighley’s defence to score.
The Cougars hit back quickly though as they kept the ball alive and Walkley went over for his second of the game.
Hunslet then took the lead as Ferreira got his hat-trick after a kick that Render tipped back and put the centre over to score.
Hunslet finished off the scoring after a fine Myles Lawford kick into the in goal was pounced on by Ferreira as he got his fourth of the match and gave Hunslet a huge 26-18 win.
Attentions now turn to North Wales Crusaders in a fortnight as the Cougars look to return to winning ways.
In fairness the first try for Hunslet had two forward passes in it as shown on The Sportsman live stream. The final try kicked through had the try scorer two metres in front of the kicker. Hardly surprising given the referee was in charge of the Newcastle game where Luke Gales drop goal was disallowed although plum centre of the posts. Ref was slow around the pitch in both games and not up to the standards required of the game at this level. Keighley need some pace in the threequarters or they are going to get found out in games like this.
