Keighley Cougars advance through to the next round of the 1895 Cup thanks to an Izaac Farrell drop goal.
It was a tight battle between the two League One sides; Farrell’s drop goal was the difference.
It was a tense start to the match at Cougar Park, before a lovely looping ball from Izaac Farrell found Brad Holroyd on the edge to dive over and open the scoring.
As the subs on both sides were introduced the game got more and more close as the Hurricanes grew in confidence and pushed Keighley but couldn’t score before the break.
Midlands opened the scoring in the second-half through Chris Cullimore powering his way over the try-line from close range, that put the Hurricanes ahead for the first time in the afternoon.
Keighley fought their way back into the game and won a penalty 10 meters out and decided to go for two points, Farrell stepped up and slotted the ball through the sticks to bring the scores level at 6-6.
As the clock was ticking both sides were looking for a hero, and Cougars found it through Farrell who, in the reborn 6 shirt, stepped up to nail a drop goal and send the home crowd wild.
Keighley won the match 7-6 and attentions now turn towards a League One opener against Rochdale Hornets at the Crown Oil Arena, before the next round of the 1895 Cup away at Championship side Featherstone Rovers.
