KEIGHLEY Cougars have breezed into the Challenge Cup third round, after they won 66-0 at plucky amateurs Heworth on Saturday.
The North Yorkshire hosts had made it this far by default, after their first-round tie was conceded by their opponents, the RAF, who were lacking availability due to work commitments.
That meant Heworth, who were facing an uphill struggle anyway against their Championship opponents, went into the game colder than they would have liked.
And Keighley took full advantage with a ruthless display, Max Clarke helping himself to four tries.
There was a hat-trick for Oliver Whitford, while Oli Burton crossed the whitewash twice.
Dylan Proud, Jack Teanby and Jordan Schofield all scored a try apiece, with man-of-the-match Lucas Green doing so too to make it a lucky 13.
Adding to that baker’s dozen of tries was Matty Beharrell, the Cougars joint-captain slotting home seven conversions.
Heworth were unlucky not to get on the scoreboard in the second half, blowing an overlap on the left edge before stand off Dan Clarke almost scored after hacking through a loose ball.
But Keighley were not to be denied their shutout, as they coasted into a third-round home tie against fellow Championship side Midlands Hurricanes.
Before that tie, Cougars are back in league action, looking to make it four points from four with a win at Dewsbury Rams this Sunday.
