Keighley Cougars can today announce that by mutual consent we have terminated the contract of Ben Crooks. Ben has been offered an opportunity to play at Halifax Panthers and will take up an 18 month contract with immediate effect.

It was not something the club were going to stand in the way of, and the playing staff and coaches were supportive of Ben in his decision.

Director of Rugby, Jake Webster said “I thank Ben for his professionalism whilst he has been at the club. He’s been a leader through some tricky times this year and I have nothing but praise for the standards he attributes himself to. He’s an absolute pro and I must nod my hat to the way he has allowed us to free up some of the budget to allow us to be a bit more flexible with this squad. I wish him all the best at the Panthers.”

“I must also go on record and thank Ian at Halifax and Steve at the Cougars for facilitating this deal as quickly as possible.”

To soften the blow losing a player of Ben’s calibre the club can announce the re-signing of Junior Sa’u.

Fans will know of Sa’u following his stint at the Cougars last year, playing 8 games and scoring 9 try’s in the unforgettable 2022 invincible season.

Junior will arrive in the country shortly after spending time in Washington playing for Old Glory DC’s.

Given the opportunity to return to Cougar Park, Junior said “I’ve been in touch with the boys a lot this year and it was always my aim to come back to the UK and play some footy. My family and I have enjoyed our time in the States but I can’t wait to get back to Cougar Park to see all the fans.”

Junior joins for the remainder of the 2023 season with the club and player open to negotiations to extend the deal into 2024.
