Keighley Cougars can today announce the loan signing of back row Cole Oakley.
Oakley made his Super League debut in round 14 of the 2020 Super League season for Warrington against the Salford Red Devils and has played at Newcastle Thunder, Rochdale Hornets and more recently Halifax Panthers.
Director of Rugby Jake Webster said “When we were alerted to the availability of Cole we jumped at the chance to add him to our squad. He deserves this opportunity and has come through the ranks at Warrington with current on field captain Ellis Robson. He’s a hard worker with a good attitude and we believe he can add to our squad. He’s another young man that adds some hunger and drive to our group and that kind of attitude can’t be overlooked.”
Cole’s coach at Halifax, Simon Grix said “The opportunity to play in the Championship at Keighley is too good for Cole to turn down and obviously, the natural progression for him is, if you’ve gone alright at League One then we’ll have a look at you in the Championship.”
“He’s obviously in our thoughts and what not so we’ll just keep a close eye on him. It’s two weeks at the moment but it might be longer. I know Keighley have been looking for players and Cole just fits, the timing of it is right so we’ll let him go there and hopefully, he enjoys it and also gets a feel for what the Championship is like over consecutive games.”
Cole’s registration was made with the RFL before the deadline and he is in contention to feature this weekend against Newcastle Thunder.
