Hello and thanks for reading what will be my last monthly column of the 2024 season. I would say it’s been a rollercoaster but, knowing how things go down at Cougar Park, it’s never boring and I imagine there’ll still be a few more twists and turns to come..

Being completely honest – for the most part of the year I expected us to walk the playoffs, it didn’t seem like such a big deal to us that there were going to be a few knockout games at the end of the season and the big one would be the League 1/Championship 12th place decider, but now we’re really here and in the sharp end of the season it certainly doesn’t feel that comfortable!

As we saw last week in the game between Hunslet and Rochdale, there is an element of unpredictability you get with this Hunslet side. 18-18 at half time was to be expected but one of Dean Muir’s infamous Heart and Desire pep talks at the half really must have struck a chord as Hunslet secured a GF berth, scoring 22 unanswered points in 20 minutes.

So respect where it is due to this weeks opposition, they have won already at Cougar Park this season and I’m sure will be expecting to do so again, the only thing guaranteed about this game is the entertainment level will be about as good as it can be!

I also wanted to use this column to say thanks to Steve and Jake for the magnificent work they’ve done this year and the players for having us along on the journey. Not forgetting all of the fans that I interact with on such a regular basis whether that’s catching up in the stands before a game or having healthy debates/disagreements about the events behind the scenes this year at CP.

My role with Cougars is so enjoyable and I look forward to (hopefully) two more exciting games to finish 2024!
