Club Statement – Disabled Access & Red Zone

Following feedback from supporters after last week’s game against the Swinton Lions, the Keighley Cougars are in a position ahead of tomorrow’s game to issue the following statement.

Since the return of spectators to Cougar Park following the pandemic, we have had to ask you as supporters to adjust to a new way of attending matchdays.

As a result of this, there have been difficulties for some supporters to have to face in order to watch the boys once again.

Now restrictions have been eased in England, we understand supporters were expecting a return to normality.

However, we as a club still have to implement a red zone on matchdays for the players, staff, and match officials which has caused some issues on gameday at Cougar Park.

Following the Swinton game, we received feedback from supporters regarding the difficulties faced by disabled supporters when wanting to switch ends at half-time or accessing the designated wheelchair areas at the front of the Danny Jones Stand.

We have been in consultation this week with the Rugby Football League regarding this matter and have reached an agreement that we believe will help this situation.

Moving forward from tomorrow’s game, disabled supporters wishing to access the designated area at the front of the Danny Jones Stand or the South Stand will be allowed to pass through red zone to access these areas.

However, we do ask that you please do not move barriers and instead contact your nearest steward in order for the stewards to move the barriers to allow disabled supporters to pass through and then return the barriers to their spot.

We must also remind supporters that whilst the game is in play, red zone areas can not be accessed or passed through.

The club must also ask other supporters to do not pass-through red zone and continue to walk across the eastern terrace to move between the Terry Hollindrake and South Stands at Cougar Park.
