As the season has progressed, we’ve seen some difficult news emerge across the game, with several clubs facing serious financial challenges. It serves as an important reminder of how vital sustainability is for the long-term future of our sport. Clubs like Featherstone Rovers, North Wales Crusaders, Salford Red Devils, and even today’s opponents Halifax Panthers have all faced well-documented pressures, and it reinforces the importance of making responsible decisions.

Here at Keighley Cougars, we made a conscious choice this season to operate within our means. That meant working with a smaller budget than in previous years and focusing on building a balanced squad—bringing in young, hungry talent to complement the experienced players who continue to give so much on the field. It’s a strategy rooted in stability, ensuring that we avoid becoming another club caught out by unsustainable spending.

More broadly, the sport itself is at something of a crossroads. The much-discussed involvement of IMG came with bold promises, and while many clubs bought into that vision, there is now a growing sense across the game that reality has not quite matched expectations. As a club, we believe rugby league must now take stock and move forward with a clearer, more grounded direction.

On a more positive note, we are delighted to announce the official launch of our new Wellness Centre, Gravitas. This is an exciting development not just for the club, but for the wider community. Gravitas will provide a space dedicated to youth development, health, and overall wellbeing—something we are incredibly proud to bring to Keighley.

Finally, we’d like to wish the very best of luck to the players out there on Sunday. Your effort and commitment represent everything this club stands for.

Let’s get behind the boys and hopefully celebrate a great performance—and a Cougars win.
